'Confident parenting' is a 6 week course that for parents who would like to discuss and try different approaches to parenting. We want to trial a course early next year and are looking for around 10 intrepid parents who would like to give it a go.
The course, which has been developed over 6 years by another school , it works on the basis that parents and carers have to change themselves in order to change or have an impact on their children’s behaviours. Each 3 hour session involves lots of practical discussion and workshops and works best for parents who are open to thinking critically about how they deal with behaviours and then be willing to try new ideas and strategies. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents and compare exeriences and knowledge.
Part of the process can involve the course facilitors videoing a given activity at each participants' home — not compulsory, but helpful and comparing it with a video taken at school involving the same activity, so that we can see what is the same and what is different, and then think about why this is.
Whitefield's family support team, Gill and Lesley will be facilitating the course and are looking for volunteers willing to try out the new course. It is likely to be run during February 2016.
