Safeguarding Lead

About the role:

As a group of schools and services supporting children and young people with SEND, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils is at the centre of all we do.  It is therefore vital that across our schools and services we uphold the very highest standards of safeguarding.

Working to the Chief Operating Officer, our Safeguarding Lead will play a critical role in ensuring our schools and services meet all regulatory standards with regards to safeguarding.  The Lead will become the Trust’s safeguarding expert and will be the point of contact for all child protection issues and queries.  The role would therefore suit former LADOs, children’s services or social care professionals or experienced Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Working closely with the Executive Team and Trustees, they will oversee all aspects of the Trust’s safeguarding arrangements – from monitoring safeguarding and child protection issues to managing specific cases.  They will also develop bespoke safeguarding training for all staff and will develop strategies for improving current arrangements.

We offer:

Annual leave: 28 days rising to 31 after 5 years’ service

About Whitefield Academy Trust

Situated in east London, Whitefield Academy Trust comprises Whitefield Schools – a close-knit group of welcoming and inclusive primary and secondary schools – and Joseph Clarke School – a highly specialist school for children with vision impairment.  Both schools are the first choice for many families from across north and east London and we have an excellent relationship with our host borough Waltham Forest.

With an ethos based on enjoyment, achievement and wellbeing for all, Whitefield Academy Trust seeks to open up the world for children and young people with SEND.  Across our schools, we aim to do the very best for the children in our care and give them the skills, confidence and belief they need to succeed in adult life.  We are relentless in our commitment to delivering high standards of teaching and pastoral care and strive at all times to accurately meet the needs of each individual child.

Through our Professional Development Services, we have an international reputation as experts in SEND provision.  We offer a range of training opportunities to teachers and support staff across London and the south east including Foundation Degrees, Initial Teacher Training as well as a number of short courses and talks.

We are also the London Borough of Waltham Forest’s chosen provider of Specialist Education Outreach Services and, as such, work with mainstream schools across the borough helping children and young people with SEND access the full curriculum.
